biography

Georgian-Swiss pianist Tamriko Kordzaia became renowned in her native Georgia as an interpreter of Mozart and Haydn. After moving to Switzerland, she continued in this field, but became more and more engaged in contemporary music. She has received numerous national and international awards, including the first prize and the prize for Mozart interpretation at the International Sakai Competition in Japan. Since 2008 she has been a member of the Mondrian Ensemble which received the Swiss Music Award 2018. In addition to collaborations with other instrumentalists, it is the often very close collaboration with composers that nourishes her preoccupation with contemporary music. She has worked among others with Klaus Lang, Jürg Frey, David Dramm, Felix Profos, Roland Moser, Thomas Wally, Sam Hayden, Dieter Ammann, Antoine Chessex, Peter Conradin Zumthor, Madli Mari Sink and Natalie Beridze. She has released records on Edition Wandelweiser, NEOS, WERGO, A Tree in a Field Records, Guild, Col Legno, Tochnit Aleph and Black Truffle. Her name is closely associated with the rediscovery of the Georgian composer Mikheil Shugliashvili, various works of whom she has premiered and recorded. Since 2005 Tamriko Kordzaia has been artistic director of the Georgian-Swiss festival for current music „Close Encounters“. She is a piano professor at the Zurich University of the Arts.
